Dr. Zhang’s Biography

Professor Zhang’s research interests are in micro/nanoscale thermal radiation and radiative properties of micro/nanostructures, with applications to radiation thermometry for semiconductor manufacturing and energy conversion. He has made important contributions to the theory and measurements of spectral radiative properties of solids and thin films, micro/nanostructures including photonic crystals, gratings, carbon nanotube arrays, metamaterials, two-dimensional materials, etc. He has published over 200 archival journal papers and invited book chapters. He has given more than 400 invited and contributed presentations and seminars at international conferences and universities around the world. Dr. Zhang is the author of Nano/Microscale Heat Transfer (1st ed. 2007; 2nd ed. 2020), which has been adopted by many universities worldwide and translated into Chinese in 2016. He has supervised a large number of Ph.D. and M.S. students, visiting scholars, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate researchers. Many of his former students and visiting scholars have established successful careers at major universities and industries in the United States, China, and South Korea.
